What Happened on the Wahweap Marina Houseboat Fire in Lake Powell?
On June 2, 2023, at 1:20PM, a fire broke out on the B Dock in Wahweap Marina at Lake Powell, resulting in significant property loss. The blaze originated on a boat moored at Wahweap Marina, situated in the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, close to Page, Arizona. The National Park Service received the initial alert about the fire shortly before 1:30 p.m. on Friday. It started on a boat located at the B dock near a marina restaurant and quickly spread to multiple other vessels.
Following the occurrence of a fire that engulfed several houseboats at a marina near the Utah border at Lake Powell, additional information has been released regarding the incident.
During the incident, one of the burning boats was pushed out of its slip and into the marina, eventually being halted by a breakwater that also caught fire. Approximately 6-8 houseboats were damaged as a result.
Fortunately, there were no reported fatalities, although two individuals received treatment at the scene for smoke inhalation.
Certain areas of the marina affected by the fire remain closed, and the staff is currently assessing the boat slips that will be cleared for harbor usage.
